Facade cladding for a new look for your home
Do you want to renovate the exterior of your home or neatly finish a new section? With siding, you give a facade a different look and create a well-maintained exterior that matches the rest of the house.
Van Der Hart Carpentry provides custom siding for existing homes, renovations, and new additions. We look at the substructure, material selection, detailing, and connections around window frames and roof edges. This ensures the siding will form a cohesive whole with the home.
- Custom-made facade cladding
- Craftsmanship in wood and carpentry
- Careful assembly and detailing
- A single point of contact during the project
Give the exterior of your house a new look
The facade largely determines what a home looks like. An outdated facade finish, a new extension, or simply the desire to give the house a different appearance can therefore be a good reason to install cladding.
You do not always have to clad the entire house for this. Precisely by applying materials strategically to a side wall, floor, extension, or other part of the house, cladding can make a clear difference.
For a great final result, we look beyond just the cladding boards themselves. The direction of the cladding, dimensions, corners, connections around window frames, and the transition to other materials ultimately determine how sleek the overall result will be.
Where can you apply facade cladding?
Facade cladding can be applied to different parts of a home. Think of a complete facade, an extension, a second storey, or just a smaller accent surface. We look at the existing home, the parts you want to clad, and which design suits them best.
Cladding entire facade
Do you want to change the look and feel of a large part of the house? Then cladding can be applied over an entire facade or multiple facade sections. We look at the proportions of the house and ensure that windows, doors, corners, and roof edges are neatly integrated.
Facade cladding on an extension
With a new extension, facade cladding offers a lot of freedom in the finish. You can deliberately have the new space match the existing house or, conversely, give it a clearly different appearance.
Cladding an upper floor or superstructure
Facade cladding does not have to start from the ground. A floor, roof extension, or other higher part of the home can also be finished with it. This creates a clear contrast between different parts of the house.
Façade cladding as an accent
Sometimes a smaller facade surface is already enough to change the appearance of a home. Think of an entrance, the section between window frames, or a protruding architectural element. By applying the cladding strategically, the effect remains calm and in proportion.
A facade that matches the rest of your home
Every home requires a different approach. That is why we look at the existing facade, the parts you want to clad, and the look you want to achieve. From there, together we determine which application and detailing fit best.
Facade cladding is all in the details
A large facade surface may seem simple, but the end result is determined by the connections. Corners, window frames, roof edges, and transitions to other materials all need to be neatly detailed.
The layout of the cladding also requires attention. Where do the panels start and end? How do joints align with windows and doors? And how do we ensure that the substructure matches the chosen direction of the cladding?
That fits well with ours carpentry. We can execute both the substructure as well as the visible wooden components and custom-made details within the same project.
Why choose wooden cladding?
You can install wooden cladding either horizontally or vertically. This choice not only affects the appearance, but also the way the subframe is constructed and the details are worked out. Furthermore, with wooden cladding, sufficient ventilation behind the wood is important so that moisture can escape and the structure can dry.
The wood type and finish also determine how the facade develops over the years. Some wooden facades are deliberately left untreated and weather under the influence of weather and UV, while others are treated to preserve the original color for longer.

What customers say about us
When it comes to facade cladding, it is not only the large surface area that needs to be neat. The connections, corners, and details ultimately determine how well-maintained the facade looks. That is why we like to let our customers tell you themselves how they experienced the craftsmanship and collaboration with Van Der Hart Timmerwerk.

Façade cladding carefully constructed and finished
Good cladding starts behind the visible work. The existing substrate must be suitable, the substructure must be correctly installed, and in the case of wooden cladding, moisture behind the cladding must be able to escape. Only then comes the final facade finish.
Van Der Hart Carpentry handles the carpentry and installation work surrounding the cladding, paying close attention to the joints. Depending on the existing situation, the following activities may be part of the project:
- Preparing and inspecting the existing facade
- Making and aligning the substructure
- Taking ventilation behind the cladding into account
- Custom cutting the facade cladding
- Horizontal or vertical mounting
- Finishing of interior and exterior corners
- Connections around windows and doors
- Finishing around roof edges and other building components
- Custom details and carpentry
- Clean transition to existing facade materials
Is the cladding part of a larger house renovation? Then we can look into whether the work can be combined with a home renovation.

How much does it cost to have siding installed?
The cost of siding depends on the surface area, the existing facade, and the design you choose. For example, a straight facade without many interruptions requires less custom work than a facade with many window frames, corners, and various connections.
The choice of materials also influences the investment. With wooden cladding, factors such as the chosen wood species, the profile, any treatment, and the method of installation play a role.
Therefore, we first examine the facade and discuss the desired look you want to achieve. Next, we map out the required substructure, amount of material, and detailing so that we can provide a suitable quote.
What determines the cost of cladding?
The price depends, among other things, on:
- The number of square meters of cladding
- The condition of the existing facade
- The required substructure
- The chosen wood type or finish
- The profile and dimensions of the parts
- Horizontal or vertical mounting
- The number of corners, window frames and connections
- Any treatment or finishing of the wood
- The accessibility of the facade

This is how we handle your facade cladding
Before we begin, we examine the existing facade and discuss which parts you want to clad and what aesthetic fits that. Next, we determine the structure, material distribution, and key connections. This allows us to purposefully prepare the sub-structure and facade cladding, resulting in a sleek and logical whole during installation.
Step 1 – Application and introduction
You let us know what you have in mind, big or small. We will contact you to discuss your wishes, ideas, and expectations.
Step 2 – Site Visit
We will visit you to inspect the home and the available space. This gives us a clear picture of the current situation and allows us to provide targeted advice on the possibilities.
Step 3 – Proposal and non-binding quote
Based on your wishes and the situation, we will create a clear proposal. You will receive a non-binding quotation in which the discussed work is clearly described.
Step 4 – Design and preparation
Following approval, we will elaborate the plans further. We will coordinate the construction, materials, schedule, and necessary preparations with you, ensuring everything is clear before we start.
Step 5 – Construction and finishing
Our team realizes the expansion and ensures that the various activities are well-coordinated. During execution, we will keep you informed of the progress.
Step 6 – Delivery
Upon completion, we will review the work together. We will check the execution, discuss any points of attention, and ensure a neat delivery of the new space.
Why have facade cladding installed by Van Der Hart?
With facade cladding, you see the craftsmanship every day. A deviated line, sloppy corner, or less neat connection around a window frame immediately stands out. That is why we look not only at the speed of installation, but precisely at dimensioning and detailing.
Van Der Hart Carpentry has a strong foundation in wood and custom work. Because of this, we can view the substructure, cladding, and custom connections as a single whole and create on-site solutions when the existing facade requires it.
We create facade cladding and other construction and wood projects in a large work area around Amsterdam, Haarlem, and Utrecht. Throughout the entire project, you will have a single fixed point of contact for preparation, material choices, installation, and finishing.
This is why customers choose Van Der Hart Timmerwerk:
- Craftsmanship in wood and carpentry
- Facade cladding tailored to your home
- Attention to dimensions and detailing
- Custom work for corners and connections
- Clear agreements and direct communication channels
- A single point of contact from preparation to delivery
Frequently asked questions about cladding
How long does wooden cladding last?
That largely depends on the wood species, detailing, installation, and maintenance. More durable wood species can last for decades when applied correctly. A good substructure and the ability for the wood to dry again after rain are at least as important as the wood itself.
Should there be ventilation behind wooden cladding?
Yes, with traditional wooden cladding, ventilation behind the wood is important. The space behind the cladding ensures that moisture can escape and the construction can dry. An improperly constructed or insufficiently ventilated facade can negatively affect the lifespan of the wood.
Can cladding be installed over an existing facade?
That is possible in certain situations. First, it must be assessed whether the existing facade and substrate are suitable and how a new substructure can be attached. In the case of renovation, for example, wooden cladding can be installed in front of an existing facade on a suitable new substructure.
Does wooden cladding require a lot of maintenance?
That depends on the type of wood and the chosen finish. Untreated wood can be used intentionally to weather naturally. With an oil, stain, or paint system, periodic maintenance is required to maintain the chosen appearance and protection. The location of the facade and exposure to sun and rain also play a role.
Do you need a permit for cladding?
Not always. Whether a permit, notification or other obligation applies depends on the work, the location and the way in which the appearance of the building changes. Therefore, check your specific plan via the Permit check of the Environment and Planning Portal before the work begins.
