Custom carpentry for your home and renovation
Fine carpentry can be found throughout the entire home. From wooden structures and walls to window frames, finishing work, and custom connections. Especially when standard sizes do not fit or new work needs to match an existing situation, precise carpentry makes all the difference.
Van Der Hart Carpentry handles various carpentry work for homes, renovations, and remodeling projects. We take careful measurements, think along with you about the execution, and ensure that the construction and finish fit together seamlessly. Both for standalone carpentry work and as part of a larger construction project.
- Custom carpentry
- Structural and finishing carpentry
- For individual projects and complete renovations
- A single point of contact during the project
Carpentry that fits precisely with what is already there
A wall that is not completely straight, an opening with non-standard dimensions, or a structure that has to be built around existing work: in homes, you regularly encounter situations where a standard solution simply does not fit.
That is where good carpentry comes into play. We measure the existing situation and create wooden structures and finishes tailored to the space. That can be a small component, but carpentry is also often an important part of a larger renovation, extension, or remodeling project.
We don't just look at how something looks. A structure must be sturdy, components must fit together properly, and the visible work must ultimately be neatly finished. That is how you get carpentry that is practically sound and also looks well-crafted.
What carpentry work can we do for you?
Carpentry may be needed in many places in and around the home. Think of structures, walls, window frames, finishing work, and custom connections. We look at what is needed and make it fit the existing situation.
Structural carpentry
Timber beam structures, frameworks, walls, and other structural components regularly form the basis of a construction project. We ensure the correct dimensions and a solid connection to the existing structure.
Walls and ceilings
Do you want to rearrange a space or renew existing walls and ceilings? We can provide wooden framing, partition walls, ceilings, and the corresponding finishing work as a separate project or within a larger renovation.
Frames, doors and connections
Frames and doors must not only fit, but also open and close properly and connect neatly to surrounding walls and finishes. We take care of the carpentry work around new and existing frames, doors, and openings.
Millwork
Right at the end of a project, the details become visible. Think of reveals, alcoves, roof edges, connections around window frames, and other components that need to be neatly finished. We make these components fit the existing situation.
Restoration of existing woodwork
Not every wooden component needs to be completely replaced. Depending on the condition, we assess whether existing woodwork can be repaired, adjusted, or if replacement is the wiser choice.
Carpentry that is custom-fitted to your home
In carpentry, much revolves around accuracy. A wall, frame, finish, or wooden structure must not just fit approximately, but connect well with the existing situation.
Therefore, we carefully measure in advance and look at the substrate, construction, and connections surrounding the new work. Especially in existing homes, walls and corners are not always completely straight and dimensions may vary.
Based on that, we will custom-fit the woodwork for your home. This ensures that structural components and exposed work connect seamlessly, resulting in a finish that does not look forced or need to be modified afterward.
Custom woodwork or custom timber work: what is the difference?
Carpentry usually involves components that become part of the home or renovation. Think of wooden structures, walls, window frames, doors, finishings, and structural connections.
Custom woodwork is actually more about a specific wooden project that is designed and made for a single application or location. Think of a standalone custom-made object or a unique wooden solution outside of standard construction work.

Carpentry from construction to neat finishing
Carpentry is often involved at multiple stages of a construction project. First, for example, wooden structures and framing are built, while visible work and finishing follow later. By looking at these components from the perspective of the same project, dimensions and finishing can be coordinated from the very beginning.
Depending on your home and the work to be done, we can carry out the following carpentry work, among other things:
- Wooden structures and frameworks
- Interior walls and ceilings
- Floor joists and wooden structural parts
- Window frames and doorways
- Installing and hanging doors
- Trim work and reveals
- Vaults and paneling
- Roof and facade details
- Repair and modification of existing woodwork
- Custom connections within renovations
Is the woodwork part of a larger change to your home? Then we can also look at how this connects to a home renovation of complete renovation.

How much does carpentry work cost?
The costs of carpentry depend heavily on the type of work. Simple finishing work cannot be compared to structural carpentry or a custom solution that must be fully measured and made on-site.
The existing situation also counts. When creating custom work in an existing home, more time may be needed for measuring, fitting, and connecting than in new construction where everything is built up from an empty base.
That is why we prefer to look at the complete project rather than just a standard hourly rate. We discuss what you want done, assess the situation, and map out materials, labor, and necessary preparation. Afterwards, you will receive a suitable quote.
What does the price of carpentry depend on?
The price depends, among other things, on:
- The type of carpentry
- The dimensions and scope of the project
- The existing situation
- The amount of custom work
- Structural or finishing carpentry
- The selected materials
- The amount of preparatory work
- Number of connections and details
- Carpentry as a separate project or part of a renovation

Here's how we handle your carpentry projects
Good carpentry starts with knowing what needs to be built and what it needs to fit together with. That’s why we first discuss your plans and assess the situation on-site. We measure the relevant parts, determine which materials and construction methods are appropriate, and prepare for the work. This allows us to work with precision during the project, and ensures you know in advance exactly what we’ll be building.
Step 1 – Application and introduction
You let us know what you have in mind, big or small. We will contact you to discuss your wishes, ideas, and expectations.
Step 2 – Site Visit
We will visit you to inspect the home and the available space. This gives us a clear picture of the current situation and allows us to provide targeted advice on the possibilities.
Step 3 – Proposal and non-binding quote
Based on your wishes and the situation, we will create a clear proposal. You will receive a non-binding quotation in which the discussed work is clearly described.
Step 4 – Design and preparation
Following approval, we will elaborate the plans further. We will coordinate the construction, materials, schedule, and necessary preparations with you, ensuring everything is clear before we start.
Step 5 – Construction and finishing
Our team realizes the expansion and ensures that the various activities are well-coordinated. During execution, we will keep you informed of the progress.
Step 6 – Delivery
Upon completion, we will review the work together. We will check the execution, discuss any points of attention, and ensure a neat delivery of the new space.

Frequently asked questions about carpentry
What work falls under carpentry?
Carpentry is a broad collective term for the manufacturing, assembly, modification, and repair of mostly wooden parts and structures. Think of walls, ceilings, window frames, doors, joist systems, finishing work, and other structural components. Which work is required depends on the home and the project.
Can custom woodwork be made in an existing home?
Yes. Especially in existing homes, custom work is regularly needed because walls, corners, and openings do not always have standard dimensions. We measure the situation on-site and make the woodwork fit what is already there.
Can existing woodwork be repaired?
That depends on the condition of the part. Not every damaged wooden part needs to be completely replaced right away. We first assess what is going on and whether repair or partial replacement is a technically sound solution. Repair and restoration of existing woodwork are also common carpentry tasks.
Do you also perform structural carpentry?
Yes, carpentry can also be part of the construction of a house or renovation. Think of timber framing, joists, and other load-bearing or supporting components. For interventions that alter the load-bearing structure of the home, a structural calculation or other architectural advice may be required first.
Do you need a permit for carpentry work?
More plans for your home?
Carpentry is often part of a larger project. Perhaps you want to renovate a room, replace existing elements, or have custom woodwork made—all at the same time. Van Der Hart Carpentry can logically combine these tasks into a single project.
